MMDA to present final draft of single ticketing system to Metro Manila Council on Feb. 1

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said it is set to present the final draft of the Metro Manila Traffic Code that will be used for the single ticketing system to the Metro Manila Council (MMC) on February 1.

At the public briefing, MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes said the technical working group approved the final draft of the proposed single ticketing system in the National Capital Region last January 19.

“Ito po ay ipe-present natin sa MMC sa February 1. Once ma-approve ito, magpapasa bawat konseho ng 17 local government units (LGUs) ng ordinansa adopting this Metro Manila Traffic Code. After publication niyan ay puwede na po siyang i-implement,” Artes said.

(We will present this to the MMC on February 1. Once it is approved, each council of the 17 LGUs will pass an ordinance adopting this Metro Manila Traffic Code. This can be implemented after publication.)

He said they are looking to implement it in the first quarter of 2023.

“So we are looking at the first quarter puwede mai-implement. Although 'yun pong interconnectivity between LTO (Land Transportation Office) and LGUs we are hoping na ma-procure agad 'yung mga ICT equipment para po sa nasabing interconnectivity,” he said.

“I think we are on track pa rin po sa full implementation nito including interconnectivity within the first quarter of this year,” he added.

Under the single ticketing system, it will be easier for traffic violators in the National Capital Region to settle the penalties through Bayad Centers or through mobile apps.

Meanwhile, concerned agencies have also proposed an increase in the penalties that traffic violators have to pay. —KG, GMA Integrated News
