Aircraft stalled at NAIA runway; passengers, crew unharmed —MIAA

An aircraft got stalled on Monday morning at a runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Manila International Airport Authority said.

The MIAA said a King Aircraft aircraft stalled at Runway 13/31 at around 10:05 a.m.

Personnel from the MIAA Rescue and Firefighting Division, Airport Grounds Operation and Safety Division, Medical Team and Airport Security, and investigators of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines responded to assist the aircraft.

The seven passengers and two crew members were unharmed and immediately assisted by the MIAA Rescue Team.

The plane was successfully extracted from the runway at 10:43 a.m., the MIAA said.

The runway was then reopened at 10:48 a.m. after clearing operations were conducted.

"No flights were affected during the emergency situation," the MIAA said.

Bong Go among passengers

In a statement, Senator Bong Go disclosed that he was among the passengers aboard the stalled plane.

"At 10 [a.m.] today, our plane had to abort the flight at [Ninoy Aquino International Airport] after developing a mechanical issue in one of its engines. My team and I were supposed to be on our way to distribute assistance to our fellow Filipinos affected by heavy rains and floods in Mapanas, Catarman and Lavezares, all in Northern Samar," he said.

Go said he was also scheduled to check the Super Health Center, a newly constructed covered court in Lavezares, as well as the renovated public market in Catarman on the same day.

"Despite best efforts to secure alternative flights, with much regret, we cannot push through with my personal visit. The safety of everyone on board is also paramount," he said.

In a separate interview, Go said he was informed by the pilot that there were problems in the plane's propellers and the brake system.

"Buti na lang po hindi po nakalipad ang eroplano. Kung tatanungin niyo kung delikado, delikado  talaga kaya nga po kumanan doon at nag-overshoot sa runway," Go told reporters. — with Hana Bordey/KG/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
