Man takes young relatives hostage in Sta. Ana, Manila

A man took three young relatives and a helper hostage in Sta. Ana, Manila on Sunday afternoon, demanding that he be reunited with his former live-in partner months after their separation.

Initial reports from the police identified the suspect as 34-year-old Robert Buhisan, and the hostages as three teenagers aged 15, 16, and 18, all with Buhisan as their middle name and identified in the police report as his nephews; and a 26-year-old house helper.

The hostage-taking was reported to have taken place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, at the family residence in Barangay 900, Zone 100, Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila.

“[T]he suspect armed by a scissor illegally detained his nephews against their will and demanded the presence of his partner,” the police report read.

Buhisan was reported to have been battling depression after separating from his live-in partner a few months ago due to irreconcilable differences.

The police said he was subdued by operatives, and was brought to the nearest hospital for the requisite physical examination.

He will be facing charges related to Serious Illegal Detention before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
