Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City is now named Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue.

Senator Grace Poe, the actor’s daughter, shared the update on Instagram with photos of the new street sign.

“Ito na ang FPJ Avenue sa QC. Maraming salamat sa pagkilala sa lugar na kinalakihan ni Da King. Lagi kang nasa alaala ng mamamayang Pilipino,” she wrote.

This came after then-president Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11608 last year. Poe abstained from the vote due to conflict of interest but said she was happy it passed.

The 2.9-kilometer stretch between EDSA and Quezon Avenue is home to the Poes’ ancestral residence, where FPJ spent most of his childhood.

Poe was declared a National Artist after starring in over 300 movies in his 46-year career. He passed away in December 2004 after suffering a stroke. He was 65 years old. — Franchesca Viernes/BM, Integrated GMA News
