Security guard allegedly robs drugstore in QC —QCPD

A security guard on Tuesday allegedly robbed a drugstore in Quezon City that he was assigned to secure, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said.

QCPD director Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III identified the suspect as Eric Mercado who works the night shift at the drugstore located on Banawe Street corner E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, according to a report of Allan Gatus on Dobol B TV.

“Mga 7:00 o'clock kaninang umaga, naka-receive tayo ng report na nilooban ito... at ang holdaper supposedly ay ikinulong ang dalawang empleyado na magbubukas ng branch na ito,” he said.

(Around 7 a.m. we received a report that this [drugstore] was robbed and the suspect supposedly locked two employees who were opening the branch.)

Torre said the suspect cut the power line in the drugstore and waited for two employees to arrive.

The suspect, who just started working at the drugstore a month ago, allegedly took an undetermined amount of money. His wife reportedly passed away when he started working at the drugstore.

Mercado requested to go home early but he was advised to wait for his substitute.

Torre presented a photo of the suspect.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Torres said the police went to Mercado’s house but he was not there. They were able to recover some bags of coins inside the house.

“Portion ng nanakaw na pera ang nabawi natin. Actually 'yun 'yung mga bags of coins, 'yung panukli nila (A portion of the stolen money was recovered. Actually, they were bags of coins used for change),” he said.

“Ganun din naman ang bahay niya kanina, nalaman namin. Napuntahan agad natin within an hour alam na kaagad namin kaya ang mga ebidensya, ang mga perang iniwan niya ay na-rekober agad,” he said.

(We also found his house earlier. We arrived there within an hour so we immediately recovered some evidence, the money he left.)

According to Torres, the drugstore has yet to provide the total amount of money stolen from the establishment.—Joviland Rita/KG/KBK/AOL, GMA Integrated News
