The injured were identified as Rob Tombocon, Francisco Catindoy and Ronalyn Tombocon.

They were given immediate medical treatment by personnel of the Philippine Red Cross.

Ronalyn was the last to be rescued from the building.

The victims said they felt the ground shaking prior to the incident.

According to a follow-up report by Super Radyo dzBB, the area where the building was located was once a creek and was covered in piles of garbage.

In a “24 Oras Weekend” report, the Malabon City government said that it would investigate the incident.

“Ang problema siyempre informal settlers walang guidance ng engineering. Hindi nakikita ang specs at saka wala silang plano. Basta gawa lang sila ng gawa,” Vice Mayor Ninong Dela Cruz.

(Of course, the problem was that informal settlers have no guidance from the city engineering department. The specs aren't reviewed and they don’t have a plan. They just keep building.)

Seven families were affected by the incident but fourteen families residing around the building had to be evacuated.

“May iguguho pa po ‘yung bahay eh. Baka maapektuhan pa ang iba. So emergency evacuation po muna,” Barangay Longos Chairperson Angelika Dela Cruz.

(The house will likely collapse again. Others may be affected. So, emergency evacuation is foremost.)

“Housing units dito na actually matagal na rin natapos and we will see if there’s an available unit for them and siguro the mayor and I will talk about it kung baka naman mai-offer sa kanila,” Malabon Rep. Jaye Lacson added.

(These are housing units that have been finished for a long time and we will see if there’s an available unit for them. And maybe the mayor and I will discuss whether these could be offered to them.) —Mel Matthew Doctor/KG, GMA Integrated News
