MMDA: Christmas rush to add 10-20% traffic volume

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said the Christmas rush will add 10-20% to the traffic volume.

With this, the MMDA conducted a road cleaning operation in various Christmas shopping centers in Metro Manila, including Dapitan Arcade in Quezon City, Dagupan St., Tondo, and Divisoria, Manila, led by MMDA Task Force Special Operations Chief Bong Nebrija.

The authorities made sure that there were no roadblocks or obstructions in the markets.

Meanwhile, at the public briefing, MMDA acting chairperson Romando Artes said MMDA enforcers’ primary duty is to work on traffic management, not apprehensions, GMA Integrated News’ Joseph Morong tweeted.

In which, minor violations such as swerving may be let go off but will not include distracted driving and number coding violations.

MMDA Dir. Noemie Recio further noted that the travel time on EDSA is faster at 24.66kph (EDSA Northbound), 20.39kph (EDSA Southbound) than the pre-pandemic speed of 21.67 kph (NB), 11.02kph (SB). — Sherilyn Untalan/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
