Taguig court denies Vhong Navarro’s motion to stay at NBI jail
The Taguig Regional Trial Court has denied TV host and actor Vhong Navarro’s motion to remain under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
According to Nimfa Ravelo’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the court said Navarro failed to provide sufficient reason to retain his custody under the NBI.
It said that the actor’s camp also failed to provide sufficient evidence that there was a threat to his life and safety in the Taguig City Jail.
The Court of Appeals earlier ordered the City Prosecutor of Taguig City to file rape and acts of lasciviousness charges against Navarro on complaints filed by model Deniece Cornejo.
Navarro surrendered to the NBI after the Taguig court issued a warrant of arrest against him for alleged acts of lasciviousness. The court later issued another warrant of arrest for rape.
Cornejo's camp petitioned for Navarro's transfer to the Taguig City Jail because it was the Taguig court that issued the warrant of arrest against the actor.
On September 20, Navarro's camp moved that he remain in the NBI detention center due to alleged threats in his life based on the text messages received by his wife.
The ruling stated that Navarro did not provide evidence regarding the alleged text messages and these messages may have many meanings and it cannot be said that it is a threat to his life and security.
The city jail officials said they would protect and respect the human rights of the prisoners.
Prosecutors accused Navarro of raping Cornejo through “force, threat, and intimidation” and by purposely intoxicating her on January 2014.
Navarro's lawyer Atty. Alma Mallonga had said Navarro was the victim and the charges against him were not true.—NB, GMA News
