PNP nabs suspect in abduction of Malaysian in Philippines ‘to meet boyfriend’
The authorities have arrested a 28-year-old for the alleged abduction of a Malaysian, who went to the Philippines supposedly to meet a boyfriend whom she said she met on a dating app.
According to Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, the victim identified as Lim Voon Pei, 35, was rescued during the police operation.
Abalos said the suspect had a Chinese accomplice who picked up the Lim at the NAIA on September 9.
Instead of meeting the boyfriend, the victim was instead brought to Carmona Cavite where she was detained.
The Anti-Kidnapping Group and the Aviation Security Group on September 12 received information that the suspect was on his way to the airport with the victim.
(Due to the swift action of the PNP-AKG and AveSeg, we were able to intercept the vehicle the suspect used. We also apprehended him and rescued the victim.)
Authorities are still looking for the Chinese suspect.
(Our successful arrest of the kidnapping suspect is a clear indication that the PNP is fulfilling its mandate to protect and secure our fellow Filipinos and foreigners who were being victimized in the country.)
“We will not rest until we gain an upper hand and deliver justice for the victims as we continue to uphold our mandate to keep our nation and the Filipino people safe and protected,” he added. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA News
