LTO to intensify implementation of Seatbelt Law

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has started to intensify its implementation of the law mandating the wearing of seatbelts in motor vehicles.

According to Chino Gaston's report on "24 Oras", the implementation of Republic Act 8750 or the Seat Belts Use Act of 1999 had still a big challenge for the agency, which caught 110,000 violators of the law last year.

According to the Global Status Report on Road Safety by the World Health Organization in 2018, "wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of death among drivers and front seat occupants by 45-50% and the risk of death and serious injuries among rear seat occupants by 25%." —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA News
