Customs finds P285 million worth of sugar inside QC warehouse

Agents of the Bureau of Customs have found thousands of sacks of sugar said to be worth P285 million inside a warehouse in Quezon City.

According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras", a source said there was an intelligence report that the warehouse on Araneta Avenue was storing smuggled sugar.

The BOC padlocked the warehouse and gave its owner half a month to prove that the thousands of sacks of sugar was legal.

The administrative officer of the warehouse said the sugar had an importation permit and clearances from the BOC and the Sugar Regulatory Administration.

He said the sugar was for industrial consumers and was in storage because it still was not needed by the plants. —Sherilyn Untalan/NB, GMA News
