Floods due to Florita greet Malabon students’ first week in school

Students in Malabon had difficulty going to school during their first week of face-to-face classes as they were greeted with heavy floods due to Severe Tropical Storm Florita.

According to Cedric Castillo’s “24 Oras” report on Tuesday, heavy rains triggered flooding in areas of the city as the students attended their second day of face-to-face classes.

“Ngayon sumugod po sila dahil baha po, pagbalik baha rin,” a parent said.

(They came to school facing heavy floods, and also when they went home it was still flooded.)

Several cars also stopped on the roads, while students and their parents were unable to pass as the floods through Governor Pascual Avenue in Malabon City.

“Kanina noong dumadaan kami tuwang-tuwa pa siya [student] kapag gumagalaw yung tubig,” another parent said.

(Earlier when we were passing by, she was still happy walking through the floods.)

Some students also had difficulty in going home as the classes were suspended in the afternoon.

“Sinuspend naman kaso huli na po eh, pang-umaga po kasi kami eh,” a student said.

(It was suspended but it was too late, our classes were only in the morning.)

The city government of Malabon suspended the afternoon classes due to heavy rains brought by Florita.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has suspended government work and classes in all levels in public schools from Tuesday until Wednesday due to the onslaught of the severe tropical storm.

The suspension of work in government offices and classes in public schools covers Metro Manila, and nearby provinces including Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales, and Bataan. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
