MMDA: 2,878 violators on last day of expanded number coding scheme dry run

More than 2,800 motorists were apprehended on the last day of the dry run for the implementation of the expanded number coding scheme in the National Capital Region, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday.

On Facebook, MMDA reported that 2,878 violators were flagged by its officers due to the coding scheme, which prohibits motorists from being on EDSA and other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila at certain hours of the day once a week. The day of the week a vehicle must comply with the coding scheme depends on the last number of its license plate.

The Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program  will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during weekdays, except during holidays.

Vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited on Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday, 5 and 6 on Wednesday, 7 and 8 on Thursday, 9 and 0 on Friday at the mentioned hours.

MMDA reminded the public it will start issuing tickets to coding violators tomorrow, August 18.

Erring drivers that will be stopped through on-ground apprehension will receive citation tickets while those who will be caught through no contact apprehension will be summoned by the MMDA. All violators will be fined P300.

As of August 4, 2022, MMDA reported that the daily average of vehicles plying EDSA reached 387,000. It is expected to increase by 436,000 during the resumption of in-person classes—slightly higher than the 405,000 daily average recorded pre-pandemic. — Sundy Locus, BM, GMA News
