Colegio de San Lorenzo in QC announces closure
The Colegio de San Lorenzo in Quezon City on Monday announced it is permanently closing due to financial instability as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and low enrollment.
"With a very heavy heart, we would like to inform you that due to the financial instability and lack of financial viability brought about by the ongoing pandemic and exacerbated by consistent low enrollment turnout over the past years, the Board of Trustees has come to the painful and difficult decision to permanently close our educational institution, Colegio De San Lorenzo," it said in a statement posted on Facebook.
The college, located on Congressional Avenue, said it would fully refund the fees paid by students who have already enrolled for school year 2022-2023.
It added that it will also assist the students in transferring to other schools by releasing their records and credentials.
"We are also coordinating with a university of the same calibre for the possibility of transferring students who are willing to continue their education therein," the college said in the statement signed for the Board of Trustees by its president, Mary Claire Therese F. Balgan.
Colegio de San Lorenzo has been operating for the past three decades, according to a report by Allan Gatus on Dobol B TV on Tuesday.
Last month, Kalayaan College, also located in Quezon City, announced it will end its operations after 22 years “due to continuing financial losses brought about by declining student population and exacerbated by challenges caused by the ongoing pandemic.”
Earlier this year, the 107-year-old College of the Holy Spirit on Mendiola Street in Manila likewise ceased operations due to difficulties in ramping up enrollment exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. —KG, GMA News
