Jonnel Estomo officially assumes post as NCRPO chief
Police Brigadier General Jonnel Estomo on Monday officially assumed his post as the acting regional director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
“I hereby assume the position as the acting regional director of National Capital Region Office, Philippine National Police, effective August 8, 2022, and I sign,” Estomo said during the command ceremony at Camp Bagong Diwa.
Estomo said they will follow the marching orders of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to uphold the Philippine Constitution at all times.
“We will remain steadfast in our fight against criminality, especially against illegal drugs, but as such as we expect our best effort to eliminate crime, we must do so with a high standard for human rights, even of those who criminalize themselves,” he said.
“However, this does not mean that we will be lenient for compassion can never be equivalent with tolerance,” he added.
Meanwhile, former NCRPO chief Police Major General Felipe Natividad relinquished his position and listed his accomplishments during his five-month tenure at the agency.
Natividad said he made crime prevention through police visibility the hallmark of his administration by maximizing personnel and deploying regional and district mobile forces on top of the 2,500 admin duty personnel.
“However, crime prevention is useless without the support of our stakeholders. This is the reason why we sustained the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo and patrolling and response operation training to empower CDOs and tanods,” he said.
Further, he said they provided community outreach and livelihood projects in areas where militant groups are active.
In the fight against illegal drugs, Natividad said his five months meted more than P1.3 billion worth of illegal drugs, 2,639 most wanted persons, and 2,796 wanted persons.
“Nonetheless, we must not dress in our laurels. Much has been done and much remains to be done,” Natividad said.
He also lauded the NCRPO’s part in the peaceful conduct of the 2022 national and local elections as well as the first State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinadn Marcos Jr.
“All these extraordinary accomplishments are not possible without the support of the ordinary men and women of the NCRPO,” he said. — RSJ, GMA News
