MMDA eyes vehicular number coding scheme review for full resumption of in-person classes
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will study adjustments to the vehicular number coding scheme in light of the resumption of full face-to-face classes in November, its officer-in-charge Director Baltazar Melgar said Wednesday.
At the Laging Handa public briefing, Melgar said they will hold a meeting with the Metro Manila Council, composed of 17 mayors in the region, to discuss the matter when the volume of vehicles on roads increases.
“Siguro, pag-aaralan natin yan kasi sa ngayon ang number coding natin ay ini-implement lang natin ng rush hour (Perhaps, we will study that because currently we are only implementing number coding scheme during rush hour),” he said.
“Titingnan natin kapag talagang dumarami na ang sasakyan, yun nga balik eskwela tayo, ay pag-aaralan po namin. Idi-discuss namin sa Metro Manila Council meeting,” he added.
(Let’s see when the volume of vehicles grows, considering the resumption of classes, we will study that. We will discuss this in a Metro Manila Council meeting.)
Melgar said several schools are already coordinating with MMDA for pedestrian marking and misting of campuses in preparation for the resumption of classes.
According to him, the MMDA will continue to work on clearing roads and deploy traffic enforcers to ease the vehicular traffic congestion in the capital region.
Meanwhile, Melgar said the MMDA flood control projects that the Commission on Audit (COA) cited as delayed in 2021 have been substantially completed this year.
The flood control projects were not completed or left unfinished due to several factors including the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, he added. —LBG, GMA News
