Barangay in Valenzuela City flooded due to damaged Bulacan dike

A damaged dike in Obando, Bulacan, has continued to cause floods to its neighboring areas including Valenzuela City.

According to Darlene Cay’s report on Unang Balita on Monday, floodwater in Barangay Wawang Pulo in Valenzuela City sometimes reach up to waist-level and residents are affected.

Among those whose livelihoods were affected were tricycle and pedicab drivers, who could not ply the flooded streets.

"Medyo mahirap po. Pagdating ng lakihan na ng tubig talaga, taasan na ng gamit. May mga nalubog na gamit. Tapos mayroon na ring konting mga alipunga dahil sa dumi ng tubig. Sobrang alat. Kaya tiis-tiis lang. Walang magagawa. Wala namang may gusto niyan," Lawrence Trajano, a resident, said.

(It is difficult for us. Once the water level increases, we have to move our things. Some of our belongings were damaged. We also have mild athlete’s foot because of the dirty water. But we can't do anything. We have to endure it as nobody wants this to happen anyway.)

The dikes in Barangay Tawiran and Paco in Bulacan were first damaged during the last week of May.

Authorities tried to repair them to stop the flooding but a huge portion of the floodgates fell apart last Friday. —Sundy Locus/KBK, GMA News
