Authorities locate owner of car used in drag racing on Marcos Highway

Police have tracked down the owner of the vehicle that was used in drag racing on Marcos Highway in Antipolo City recently.

The Highway Patrol Group-National Capital Region was able to locate Mark Francis Contaco at his residence, but he said it was his friend who drove the car, according to a "24 Oras Weekend" report by John Consulta on Saturday.

When Contaco showed the authorities the car, they observed certain alterations in its appearance.

"If we look at the vehicle during the drag race, its color was different from that of the vehicle we recovered, but it has the same plate number. The owner admitted that they used the vehicle during the drag race. They allegedly had a bet amounting to P35,000," HPG-NCR chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Joel Mendoza said.

The HPG also recovered two vehicles also allegedly used during drag racing on Marcos Highway, which was captured on video by GMA News anchor Connie Sison.

One of the vehicles apparently had more gauges than an ordinary car.

The car's bumper was removed to reduce aerodynamic drag and increase speed.

The back part of the car was also empty to make it less heavy.

Another vehicle changed its motor but had no clearance from the HPG, while the other one had spurious documents.

Mendoza said they can recommend the revocation of the driver's license of those involved.

Police are still searching for the driver and another car involved in drag racing. —Jamil Santos/VBL, GMA News
