Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach reopening moved to June 3, 2022
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has moved the reopening of Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach from May 20 to June 3, 2022.
According to a report on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Tuesday, the DENR postponed the reopening for two weeks as some infrastructures have yet to be finished in the area.
A cleanup also still needs to be done near the US Embassy, the same report said.
Aside from these, the DENR said the department has to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the water in Manila Bay before the reopening.
The dolomite beach first opened to the public in September in 2020.
Several environmental groups criticized the project, raising concerns on the effect on one's health of the crushed dolomite used as "white sands."
But the DENR defended its Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach, saying concerned agencies and experts were consulted for the project. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
