Honey Lacuna proclaimed as Manila's first female mayor
Incumbent Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna has been proclaimed the new mayor of Manila, making her the first female local chief executive of the city.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced her victory Wednesday evening at 7:52 p.m. at the Manila City Council Session Hall.
Lacuna led the mayoral race with 534, 565 votes — a wide margin from contender Alex Lopez’s 165, 551.
Her running mate, Manila 3rd District Rep. John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto also won with 582, 941 votes and will serve as the city’s new vice mayor.
Lacuna will replace outgoing Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso who vied for president in Eleksyon 2022.
Daughter of former vice mayor Danilo Lacuna, she entered politics as councilor of fourth district of Manila for three consecutive terms from 2004 to 2013.
She then served two terms as vice mayor — first in 2016 and in 2019 alongside Domagoso.—LDF, GMA News
