Stressed yaya arrested in slay of 2-year-old girl

Quezon City police officers arrested a yaya or nanny for the death of the two-year-old girl who was in her charge.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report in “24 Oras”, yaya Rowena Daud rushed a bruised and injured baby Sabina to the emergency room of a local hospital.

Daud claimed that the child had fallen, but police were skeptical given Sabina's injuries.

“Marami siyang sugat sa iba’t-ibang parte ng katawan... sa likod, paa, ulo mga namamaga... nagtataka kami... hindi siya basta nahulog lang,” Police Lieutenant Anthony Dacquel, Chief of the Women and Children Protection Desk, QCPD Station 14 said.

(She had injuries in various parts of her body... on her back, legs, even her head was swollen... we were doubtful... we knew she did not just fall.)

Authorities invited Daud to the police station and during questioning, the 37-year-old yaya eventually admitted that she had hurt the child due to stress. She explained that she was also taking care of Sabina’s 8-month-old sibling and her own three children.

Daud was taken into police custody and murder and child abuse charges were recommended against her. Investigators were also looking into a rape charge after doctors raised the possibility during their tests.
