MMDA bats for earlier workday for NCR govt workers

Metro Manila Development Council (MMDA) on Monday proposed changes in the schedule of work in government offices located in the National Capital Region.

MMDA chairman Don Artes said agencies could be operating earlier from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to lessen the volume of traffic during rush hours.

Artes added that another recommendation is a 4-day work week of 10 hours each day.

(We have already called and written to the Civil Service Commission with Chairman Carlo Nograles. And we will meet after Holy Week to discuss this plan or suggestion to implement 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. government workdays and all transactions, so that we can spread the vehicles at different times of the day.)

Earlier, Artes said that the volume of vehicles in Metro Manila’s roads is already excessive.

He noted that in 2021 alone there were around 300,000 additional vehicles in the country, up to 70% of which are traversing NCR. -- BAP, GMA News
