MMDA mulls expanding number coding scheme
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said it is studying the possible expansion of the afternoon number coding scheme, which is set from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
At a press conference, MMDA officer-in-charge and general manager Romando Artes said they are considering adding a morning period in the number coding scheme from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
“Pinag-aaralan po natin yan na if ever baka po i-expand natin between 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. yung number coding scheme,” he said.

According to Artes, the MMDA will monitor first the effect of the recommended Alert Level 1 status on the traffic in the National Capital Region before implementing the expanded number coding scheme.
Artes said the traffic situation in the region is around moderate to slow in some periods of the day.
Starting December 1 last year, the MMDA reinstated the modified number coding scheme from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays, that only covers private vehicles. — RSJ, GMA News
