Fire hits Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City; 600 families affected
A fire hit a residential area in Barangay Paligsahan in Quezon City late Monday evening, according to the report of GMA News' James Agustin on Saksi.
The fire started a few minutes after 10 p.m. at the corner of Mother Ignacia Street and Don A. Roces Avenue.
It quickly spread as most of the houses were made of light materials.
The fire reached the second alarm before it was put out past 12 a.m.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said 300 homes were affected by the fire, according to Agustin's report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.
Six hundred families were rendered homeless.
Some of the residents were able to save a few of their belongings, but others had no time to bring out items.
Meanwhile, two residents were injured. One of them, a woman, was accidentally hit by a fire truck which was reversing while she was picking up clothes that fell on the road as they were fleeing the area.
A few residents ganged up on a fellow resident whom they suspected of starting the fire. He was brought to a hospital.
The BFP however said arson is not suspected because the resident who allegedly started the fire was not at the third floor of the house where the fire began.
The BFP said it is still investigating the cause of the fire.
Residents temporarily spent the night at A. Roces Park and at Manuel Roxas High School.
They are appealing for food, clothes, and other assistance.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development is already at the area as of posting time to assist affected residents. —BAP/KG, GMA News
