People flock to Binondo on Chinese New Year

Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila was crowded on Tuesday as people flocked to the area to buy lucky charms and tikoy to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

According to Mariz Umali's report on "24 Oras," Chinese restaurants in the area were also full.

"Dati yearly nagpupunta kami dito, eh ngayong medyo open na sabi ko sige punta kami ulit," Mameng Dela Paz said.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno earlier announced that this year's Chinese New Year activities in Binondo were prohibited as the threat of COVID-19 remains.

Moreno signed an executive order banning public activities in the area.

He prohibited activities such as the dragon dance and fireworks display. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
