BuCor reports 4th inmate who escaped from Bilibid

The number of inmates who bolted the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) on Monday has increased to four after the Bureau of Correction (BuCor) updated its count.

BuCor spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag on Tuesday identified the fourth escapee as Chris Ablas, who was convicted of robbery with homicide and sentenced to reclusion perpetua without parole.

“Please be informed that one more PDL (person deprived of liberty) identified as PDL CHRIS Candas ABLAS  N217P-4392 of Dorm  8C-2 was reported missing up to present with possibility as the 4th and unidentified escapee who was involved  in the prison escape incident yesterday on 17 Jan 2022,” he said.

Currently, two of the four are still at large: Ablas and Drakilou Falcon, who was convicted for robbery with homicide and illegal possession of firearms, and with pending cases of double murder, frustrated murder, attempted murder, and robbery.

Two escaped inmates, Pacifico Adlawan and Arwin Bio, were killed during manhunt operations after they allegedly shot at arresting authorities.

Three jail guards and an inmate were hurt after the inmates fired shots while escaping early Monday morning. The victims were brought to Ospital ng Muntinlupa for treatment.

“Maximum Security Compound is still placed on lockdown status as of this time while recovery efforts are still ongoing,” Chaclag said.

Interviewed on GTV’s Balitanghali, Chaclag said BuCor will give a reward for those who can give information on the whereabouts of the escaped prisoners.

During the jailbreak, he said the PDLs already had firearms when they got out of the walls of the compound. According to him, it is possible that their ammunition had been prepositioned outside.

“Noong lumabas sila sa pader ng maximum [security compound], pinaputukan nila agad yung mga naka-duty na personnel [When they got out of the walls of the maximum security compound, right away they fired shots toward the personnel on duty],” he said. —KBK, GMA News
