Vico Sotto catches COVID-19
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Saturday announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.
In a Facebook post, Sotto revealed that he has a sore throat, a fever, and body aches.
“Hi everyone, bad news, I've tested positive for COVID-19. I have sore throat, fever, and body aches, but please don't worry! I'll continue to work remotely while in isolation for the next 7 days,” he said.
The mayor recalled that he did not catch the virus even during several "close calls" with the highly transmissible Delta variant.
He then urged the public to remain vigilant and follow minimum health protocols amid rising COVID-19 infections.
“Matindi talaga ang pagkalat ng Omicron-- sabi nga ng ibang eksperto, LAHAT TAYO ay mae-expose sa variant na ito. Kaya lagi po tayong mag-iingat, palakasin natin ang ating nga resistensya, at maging responsable – kung may sintomas wag na munang lumabas,” he added.
(The Omicron variant is rapidly spreading. As some experts say, we will all be exposed to this variant. So let us always be careful, let us boost our resistance, and be responsible. If you are experiencing symptoms, don't leave your homes for now.)
The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday logged another record-high 39,004 COVID-19 infections, bringing the country’s caseload to 3,168,379.
The previous highest daily case count reported was 37,207 on Friday, January 14. — Richa Noriega/VBL, GMA News
