Marikina City declares health break from January 17 to 29

The Marikina City government declared Friday a “health break” for students and teachers amid the rise of COVID-19 infections nationwide.

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro announced there would be no classes from January 17 to 29 in all levels in both public and private schools in the city.

“At dahil sa maraming nagkakasakit na mga bata, guro at kanilang kaanak sa Lungsod ng Marikina, minabuti na magdeklara ng isang Academic Health Break na magsisimula sa January 17 hanggang January  29, 2022 alinsunod sa provision ng Section 16-General Welfare Clause ng Local Government Code,” Teodoro said in a statement.

(Many children, teachers, and their relatives were infected by COVID-19 in Marikina City, it is better to declare an academic health break that will start on January 17 to January 29, 2022, which is in accordance with the provision of Section 16-General Welfare Clause of the Local Government Code.)

“Sa kadahilanan ng public health emergency na ito, mainam na mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang bawat pamilyang taga-Marikina na makatuon sa pagpapagaling ng kanilang karamdaman, makapagpahinga, makapagquarantine at maasikaso ang kanilang mga pangangailangan sa mga panahon na ito,” he added.

(Due to this public health emergency, it is good to give every family in Marikina the opportunity to focus on their recovery and take care of their needs during these times.)

Also, the mayor advised all private and public schools in the city to suspend online and face-to-face activities including giving homework to the students during the period of health break.

He also urged residents to prevent going out unless for essential activities.

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also declared a “health break” for students and teachers in both public and private schools in Manila from January 14 to 21, 2022.

Moreno said the one-week health break would hopefully allow COVID-infected students and teachers, as well as parents, to recover from the disease.

The government on Friday placed Metro Manila and around 50 other areas under Alert Level 3 from January 16 to 31 amid the rising COVID-19 cases. —LBG, GMA News
