Areas under granular lockdown in Manila increase to 5 —PNP

From three, there are now five areas in Manila that were placed under granular lockdown due to COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday, the Philippine National Police said on Thursday.

Based on the PNP data, five people were affected by the strict measure.

The data showed that only Manila has areas under granular lockdown in the National Capital Region.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno earlier said the areas with the highest number of active infections are Tondo 1 with 29, San Andres with 12, Pandacan, and Sampaloc with seven each.

On Tuesday, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David expressed concern after the daily positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) increased to over 5%.

The positivity rate is the percentage of infected people among the total number of individuals tested for the disease.

David warned that the spike could be more than just "a holiday uptick.”

Aside from the NCR, only Cordillera has reported areas under granular lockdown nationwide. The lockdown in four areas in the region were affecting nine people.

In total, the PNP reported nine areas under granular lockdown in the country. —LBG, GMA News
