3 areas in Manila on granular lockdown —PNP
Three areas in Manila were put on granular lockdown, a critical zone for coronavirus disease, amid the holiday season, police said Tuesday.
Data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed that the Manila Police District recorded three houses under lockdown. There were no other areas in Metro Manila under similar measures.
In a separate statement, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also revealed that three areas with the highest number of active infections are Tondo 1 with 29, San Andres with 12 and Pandacan and Sampaloc with seven each.
As of December 26, Manila recorded 91 active cases including 90,501 recoveries and 1,763 fatalities.
Last December 10, the PNP recorded only one area in Metro Manila on granular lockdown.
At one point, Metro Manila also recorded zero areas under granular lockdown: on December 13, two days before the Department of Health reported the first two cases of Omicron variant in the country.
"Sa katunayan po sa buong Pilipinas, 42 areas na lamang po ang nasa granular lockdown at nakakaapekto sa 51 households o 107 individuals. Titingnan po natin sa National Capital Region, zero na po, wala ng area sa NCR ang nasa granular lockdown," said Interior Secretary Eduardo Año during President Rodrigo Duterte's televised briefing on Monday night.
(In the whole Philippines only 42 areas were under granular lockdowns and it affected 51 households or 107 individuals. If we look at NCR, it is already zero, there are no areas under granular lockdown.)
OCTA Research on Tuesday reported that the National Capital Region's daily positivity rate has exceeded 5% for the first time since October 24, and warned that the increase in cases may not just be a "holiday uptick." — Consuelo Marquez/BM, GMA News
