Mandaluyong residents fear houses might collapse due to sinkhole

Several residents in Coronado Street in Barangay Hulo in Mandaluyong City fear that their houses might collapse after a portion of the street under construction broke down.

According to a report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, a portion of the road for the pipe laying project of the Manila Water collapsed due to the area's soft soil condition.

"Medyo natakot kami kasi siyempre, tabing bahay kami dito," a resident said.

"Baka sa susunod na panahon, puro crack na ang bahay namin. Kaunting lindol lang, either marmaing crack o kaya gumuho ang bahay namin. Ayusin lang po sana 'yong paglagay ng panambak para solido," another resident added.

The contractor of the project said the soil erosion was due to the seepage coming from the Pasig River.

"Ang sabi po sa akin ng engineer, nagkaroon lang po ng seepage coming from the river dike so ayun ang cause ng soil erosion," Barangay Hulo chairman Bernadino Maglague said.

The contractor already promised to fix the problem in three days. Work has also been done to stabilize the condition of the area.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
