One hurt after unidentified suspect hurls stone at MRT3 train coach

A passenger was injured after an unidentified suspect threw a stone at a Metro Rail Transit-Line 3 (MRT3) train coach on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at the Taft Avenue station at 6:51 a.m., the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said in a statement. The train was on its way to the Magallanes Station.

Photos shared by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade on Facebook showed a window of a train coach was broken, and a stone was on the floor.

"Mayroong nambato sa isang tren ng MRT-3 habang bumibiyahe papuntang Magallanes. Nabasag ang isang bintana ng bagon, at may isang pasaherong nasaktan," Tugade wrote on Facebook.

(Someone threw a stone at a train coach of the MRT3 while it was traveling toward Magallanes. A window of a coach got broken, and one passenger was injured.)

The DOTr said it was the window of the third car of the MRT3 train that got broken.

It also said the injured passenger was a 51-year-old man. He was immediately given first aid at the Magallanes Station, then brought to the San Juan De Dios Hospital in Pasay for further medical attention, the DOTr said.

Tugade said the suspect must be put behind bars.

MRT3 Director for Operations Michael Capati said an investigation was launched to identify the suspect, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.

Suspect arrested

In a report update on dzBB, Santos said the suspect -- identified as a garbage scavenger -- was arrested near a construction site along Taft Avenue, hours after the stoning incident.

An investigation is underway to get into the motive of the suspect, the report added.

"The MRT-3 Management assures the public that appropriate legal charges will be filed against those involved in the incident. Necessary steps will also be taken to prevent similar incidents fron happening in the future," the DOTr said. —KG/LBG, GMA News
