Voter registration queues getting longer as deadline nears

With three days left before the deadline of voter registration, voter applicants have been forming long lines at satellite registration sites to meet the cutoff of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the day.

In Sangandaan, Caloocan City, voter applicants fell in line as early as 7 p.m. Tuesday to make the cutoff for Wednesday registration, according to a report by Darlene Cay on Unang Balita.

Some of the applicants said they have tried several times before to register, but due to the volume of people, they could not make the cutoff.

The applicants stayed on the sidewalk to wait overnight for the registration to start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

In a satellite registration sites in Malabon and Quezon City, the lines of voters were also long, according to a report by Dano Tingcungco on Unang Balita.

A Comelec staff said the number of voter applicants for Eleksyon 2022 is more than that in previous elections. Eligible voters will be able to cast their ballots in Eleksyon 2022 scheduled in May.

As of last week, the total number of registered voters reached 62 million.

Meanwhile, in Pasig City's 2nd District, the voter registration satellite quickly ran out of slots as early as 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to a report by Tina Panganiban-Perez on Balitanghali.

This was a stark difference from last week when slots lasted until 4 p.m.

The satellite processes around 650 to 670 registrations per day, including those in the priority lane.
