Benjamin Abalos, Honey Lacuna, Malapitan son file COCs for mayor

Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. will try to reclaim his old seat at the Mandaluyong City Hall in the May 2022 polls.

The 85-year-old on Wednesday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor with daughter-in-law and outgoing Mayor Menchie Abalos as his running mate.

Abalos served as officer-in-charge of Mandaluyong for a year after the People Power Revolution that ousted then-President Ferdinand Marcos in 1986. He then successfully ran for mayor in 1988, a post he held until 1998.

In Manila, Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and the city’s third district Representative Yul Servo filed their COCs for mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

Representative Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan aims to succeed his father, outgoing Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan, next year.

Mayor Malapitan, meanwhile, is eyeing a congressional seat.

The Malapitans also submitted their COCs before the local Comelec office on Wednesday.  — VBL, GMA News
