Pasig City cops help mom give birth in car after vehicle stalls
Police officers in Pasig City helped a woman who had gone into labor when her car had run out of gas on the way to the hospital.
According to a report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday, the car stopped near the Pasig Police Substation 2 near Rizal High School where police officers immediately responded to the situation.
Police Corporal Norma Royo then helped the woman give birth.
[The head was out and she told me to push. When the baby came out we didn't hear it cry or see it move.]
[I patted the baby a bit and it started crying loudly. I saw that it was a baby girl.]
Another police officer called for medical response, but when they saw that Santos had already given birth, they instead called for a taxi to bring mother and child to a nearby lying-in center.
"Usually kasi matagal yung rescue minsan pag dumarating, dahil nga sa pandemiya," said Police Corporal Johnson Dawagan.
[It usually takes a while for the rescue to arrive, because of the pandemic.]
Mother and baby are back home and the child is in good condition. Santos, whose due date was September 17, expressed her gratitude to the police, in particular Royo, who carried the baby, still with its umbilical cord, to the taxi and rode with them to the clinic.
Siya ang naghatid eh," she said.
