Radio DJ Karen Bordador acquitted in drug case —DOJ
A Pasig City court has junked the drug case filed against radio disc jockey Karen Bordador, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Wednesday.
In a message to reporters, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Bordador’s acquittal was confirmed by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Guevarra did not state the reason for the acquittal, although a press statement from Bordador’s camp said she “proved her innocence through the strong evidence of CCTV footage and key eyewitnesses.”
She was recently released after spending nearly five years in jail.
“Being imprisoned for many years, I have fully experienced the life of the disadvantaged. I decided to act as a spokesperson while behind bars for those who couldn’t speak for themselves,” Bordador said in a statement.
I did my best to communicate to the jail officers the needs of fellow PDLs (persons deprived of liberty), as well as how to improve the rehabilitation programs and facilities. I tried my best to contribute my talents and skills to make my time inside productive and meaningful. I never lost hope and remained a dreamer throughout my detention,” she added.
Bordador and her former boyfriend Emilio Lim were arrested in a buy-bust operation in August 2016.
Confiscated were ecstasy tablets, ecstasy powder, cracked ecstasy, dried marijuana leaves, and marijuana resins/oil with estimated value amounting to P2.8 million, drug paraphernalia, and money-counting machines.
Police had claimed Lim was the supplier of ecstasy and other party drugs in high-end bars in Bonifacio Global City and Makati City. — BM, GMA News
