89 detainees, 21 cops positive for COVID-19 at QC police station

More than 100 individuals inside a police station in Fairview, Quezon City tested positive for COVID-19, a report on 24 Oras said on Friday.

Of the 110 infected, 89 are persons under police custody and 21 are police officers.

"Masikip ang lugar. Hindi naman iyon individual cell so mabilis nag-hawaan sa loob (The place is congested and detainees are not kept in individual cells so the disease spread quickly)," said Rolly Cruz, head of the Quezon City Epidemiology & Disease Surveillance Unit (QC-CESU). 

Upon the advice of the QC-CESU, the infected people were placed in isolation and are under monitoring.

At least 49 areas in the city have been placed under a special concern lockdown. The city currently has 5,339 active cases.

"Mabilis ang transmission sa househld na hindi lang katulad dati na dalawa o tatlo ang nahahawa. So [ngayon] rest of the family nahahahawa once na-introduce ang COVID-19 sa pamilya," said Cruz.

Among those placed under lockdown is a building in Old Balara that houses 40 to 50 employees of a company. -MDM, GMA News
