Fire hits basement of Ever Commonwealth mall in QC
Fire hit a portion of the Ever Commonwealth shopping mall on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City before dawn on Monday.
The fire started past 2 a.m., according to a report by Mai Bermudez on GMA News' Unang Balita.
Smoke was seen rising from the basement but the fire did not affect the other parts of the mall.
Firemen were able to put the fire under control at 4:35 a.m., and fire out was declared at 5:52 a.m.
Meanwhile, personnel of Barangay Batasan Hills went to the site to help secure the area during the incident.
No one was injured in the incident, the management of Ever Commonwealth said.
The mall management also said their Operations and Security group and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) are investigating the incident.
The fire started at the back alley area in the basement, it said. The mall's night shift guards informed the BFP, thus the first alarm was raised at 2:13 a.m.
It added that the mall will open at 10 a.m. on Monday. However, it said "Ever Supermarket will be closed until further notice."
The mall also said the vaccination scheduled for the day has been postponed.
"Rest assured that Ever Commonwealth administration remains cautious and will continue to take all necessary precautionary measure to ensure the safety and health of our community, especially in these challenging times," it said. —KG, GMA News
