Suspect sorry for killing partner who was buried in concrete

A 33-year-old suspect said he regrets fatally stabbing his partner, whom he buried in concrete shortly after her death.

In Mariz Umali's "24 Oras" report, Manuel de Guia admitted his plans to steal from his partner, Maria Teresa Caballero early morning of June 10.

De Guia also disclosed that he stabbed the victim and their daughter. Caballero's caretaker was also one of the cohorts in the crime, de Guia said.

The suspects then tried to  hide Caballero's body under concrete. They said they did not kill the child because she promised not to report the crime to police.

However, the child immediately reported the murder to authorities, which led to the arrest of de Guia.

Inside the detention cell, De Guia also confessed that he was using illegal drugs, and that he was frustrated at his partner, who tried to end their seven-year relationship.

Elmer Mina, who was previously arrested after being tagged in the crime, was released from jail after the Quezon City prosecutor's office failed to find enough evidence to prove his involvement in the murder.

This was confirmed by the Quezon City Police District, saying Mina was only arrested because he was in possession of the keys to the victim's car.

But QCPD chief Police Brigadier General Antonio Yarra said Mina is not yet "off the hook" as he was released for further investigation. Police probers will still look into how Mina received the car keys.

Declaring the case as solved but not closed, law enforcers are still hunting down the caretaker, who is also facing multiple criminal cases over the crime.
