Wake behind Tondo barangay hall violates rules on gatherings
A wake being held just behind a barangay hall in Tondo, Manila violated the government's protocols for social gatherings, a "24 Oras" report showed on Wednesday.
According to Jonathan Andal's report, police found several bottles of liquor as well as numerous attendees failing to follow social distancing at a wake located at the back of Barangay 95, Barangay Hall.
According to village councilor Edgardo Feliciano, they were able to monitor the event but after they briefly left the venue to eat dinner, more visitors went to the wake.
"We were not able to stop them," Feliciano said, in Filipino.
Barangay chairman Ronald Lee, admitted that the local government had lapses in preventing the event, adding that they already learned their lesson.
"I told them that we won't permit drinking liquor and gambling. We allowed them to have the wake. But we learned our lesson, we will not allow this to happen again," he said in Filipino.
Police only warned the attendees of the wake and reminded them of health protocols. Subsequently, authorities allowed immediate family members to remain in the wake.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
