Pedicab driver struggling amid pandemic receives aid from Kapuso Foundation

A pedicab driver struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

In a report on "24 Oras," Johnny Taguinod, 49, said that his daily income of P200 before the pandemic has been heavily affected by the quarantine restrictions.

"We stopped operations for months. We don't know where we can earn a living, where to buy food or where to get money," he said in Filipino.

Taguinod's sibling also lost his job so he had no choice but to trade trash for extra income.

In 2020, a Social Weather Stations study found that the suspension of public transportation as part of the efforts against COVID-19 was burdensome to 77% of Filipino families.

As of Sunday, Barangay 28, where Johnny is residing in Caloocan City, ranked fourth among the barangays with the most number of COVID-19 cases at 59.

With the Philippine Army and the Barangay 28 Council, the GMA Kapuso Foundation donated fully-loaded grocery packs to 2,060 residents including pedicab and tricycle drivers.

For those who wish to send cash assistance, donations can be made through bank transfers, Cebuana Lhuiller, and PayMaya, or vouchers on Shopee and Zalora.
