Over 70 people arrested for curfew, liquor ban violations in Caloocan City, QC


More than 70 people were arrested for violating health measures in light of COVID-19 including curfew and liquor ban in Caloocan and Quezon City, according to reports on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

At least 47 people including three minors were apprehended for violating curfew in Caloocan City, according to a report by Darlene Cay.

The curfew has been implemented in the city since March 10. However, some of the violators said they were not aware of the measure.

Violators were brought to the holding area of the Philippine National Police – Caloocan, where they attended a lecture on COVID-19 and health protocols.

Some of the arrested persons were caught in a drinking session, while some were apprehended while on their way home.

Currently, there are 648 active cases of COVID-19 in the city.

The Metro Manila Council is set to implement uniform curfew hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the National Capital Region starting Monday, March 15, amid the surge of COVID-19 cases.

In Quezon City, more than 30 people were arrested for violating health protocols including liquor ban and curfew, according to a report of James Agustin.

The Quezon City Task Force Disiplina issued tickets to the violators.

 

Amid the surge of COVID-19 cases, the task force urged residents to follow health protocols.

As of Sunday, Quezon City still has 2,991 active cases of COVID-19.

OCTA Research’s Dr. Guido David said the number of daily infections in the country could reach 20,000 by April.

As of Sunday, the Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 621,498 with 4,899 new infections. The DOH said 48,157 are still active cases.

At least 63 more fatalities were recorded, bringing the death toll to 12,829. Recoveries meanwhile totalled 560,512. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
