Retirement home at Christ the King seminary placed on COVID-19 lockdown

A retirement house for priests at the Christ the King Mission Seminary compound in Quezon City was placed under a special concern lockdown on Friday after a senior citizen and two others tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras,” a senior citizen, a nurse, and a caregiver who took care of seniors tested positive at the retirement house.

Due to this, around 30 senior citizens and 34 personnel of the seminary will be swab tested.

“Bukod na ang mga senior ay very vulnerable population at wala pa rin bakuna sa mga seniors natin, so kailangan malaman natin agad at maalis doon ‘yung mga merong symptoms at merong mga pagpo-positive,” Dr. Rolly Cruz, the QC Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit head, said.

The seminary however emphasized that only the two-story retirement house for priests was  locked down within the compound.

Furthermore, the retirement house was far from the church, thus the church was unaffected and would remain open.

“We want to assure the public, especially those coming to attend mass… na walang problema sa simbahan, sa Shrine of Jesus the Divine Word, wala namang infection doon,” Rev. Father Pablito Tagura said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
