Meat vendors struggle to comply with price ceiling on pork
Several meat vendors in Metro Manila are still finding it hard to follow the price ceiling on pork products, according to Maki Pulido’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday.
As part of the government’s measures to increase the supply of pork and reduce prices in Metro Manila, the Department of Agriculture sent out over 150,000 kilograms of pork supply to different cities in the capital region.
However, some vendors said they have yet to receive the pork supply.
“Isang beses lang po sila nagbigay dito. Hinihintay nga namin ‘yong susunod, wala naman silang dinala dito,” a vendor said.
With this, several vendors admitted they are having a hard time complying with the price ceiling set by the government.
In Marikina City, the price of liempo per kilo ranges from P330 to P350.
“Siyempre kinakabahan din kami kaso wala kaming magagawa. Kung ipipilit nila ‘yong presyo nila, titigil na naman ang pagtitinda,” a vendor said.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier imposed a price ceiling in Metro Manila for 60 days starting February 8 upon the recommendation of the DA.
The price ceiling is P300 per kilo for liempo, P270 per kilo for kasim and pigue, and P160 per kilo for dressed chicken. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/MDM, GMA News
