Residents faint, pets foam at mouths amid deadly ammonia leak in Navotas

Residents told stories of loved ones fainting and pet dogs left behind foaming at their mouths following the dealdly ammonia leak that hit an ice plant in Navotas City on Wednesday after noon.

According to Cedric Castillo’s report on “24 Oras,” the victims were crying and shouting while evacuating on Radial Road 10 and North Boulevard.

“Pumunta na po kami sa pangalawang tulay. Hindi na po namin kaya. Nagbubula na po ‘yung bibig ng mga aso doon,” Gary Española, a resident, said in his video.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco said the ammonia leak came from T.P. Marcelo Ice Plant and Cold Storage, which is owned by his mother and her siblings.

Due to the leak, the residents covered their mouths and noses as they evacuated, with some running away as the smell of ammonia intensified.

Some went near the sea and were forced to go further due to the strong odor.

Española said that many residents were crying due to the headache caused by the ammonia.

“Sumabog… ‘yung ammonia ‘yung sumingaw.Malayo na po kami sa lugar namin. Sobrang sakit po ng ano, marami pong hinimatay, maraming nag-suka po,” Española said.
