Manila starts 'no contact apprehension' of traffic violators
Manila City will implement a "no contact apprehension" of traffic violators starting Monday, December 7, 2020, according to Super Radyo dzBB's Isa Avendaño-Umali's report on Balitanghali.
On Monday morning, an activity marking the start of the program was held at the corner of Quirino and Taft avenues that was attended by Mayor Isko Moreno.
The program aims not only to curb corruption among traffic enforcers but also to prevent altercations between them and the motorists and minimize the possibility of COVID-19 transmission.
Motorists will be fined P2,000 on first offense, P3,000 on second offense and P4,000 on third offense for the following violations: disobedience to traffic control signals and signs, obstruction of pedestrian lanes, driving on yellow box, over speeding, non-wearing of helmet for motorcycle riders, and disregard to lane markings.
Counterflowing, reckless driving, and non-wearing of seatbelts meanwhile will be meted with P3,000 fine on first offense, P4,000 on second offense, and P5,000 on third offense.
The program will be made possible by 36 high-definition CCTV cameras in strategic areas in Manila. A command center will monitor these cameras 24/7.
Registered owners of vehicles caught with violation will receive a formal notice. Those who will ignore the notice will risk license or registration renewal. —KBK, GMA News
