National hero Andres Bonifacio's 157th birth anniversary observed in Manila
National hero Andres Bonifacio's 157th birth anniversary is being observed by the country on Monday, Nov. 30.
In Manila, before daybreak, wreaths were already in place in front of the hero's statue in Bonifacio Plaza in Divisoria, Tondo, as seen in photos shared by Super Radyo dzBB reporter Isa Avendaño-Umali.
City government personnel meanwhile were busy in the past few days preparing the Kartilya ng Katipunan shrine near the Manila City Hall.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno led the wreath laying ceremony at the Kartilya ng Katipunan monument on Monday morning near the Manila City Hall to honor Bonifacio.
Bonifacio is considered the father of Philippine Revolution against colonial Spain.
He was one of the founders of the Kataas-taasang Kagalang-galangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK) which led the revolt against the Spaniards.
Bonifacio was born in Tondo, Manila on Nov. 30, 1863.
He died on May 10, 1897.
November 30 is a regular holiday in the country in honor of Bonifacio. —KG, GMA News
