Judge in Manila RTC shooting dies in hospital

The judge who was shot inside a branch of the Manila Regional Trial Court has been declared dead by doctors, authorities said on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Police Major Rosalino Ibay, chief of the Manila Police District's Special Mayor's Reaction Team (SMaRT), Judge Ma. Theresa Abadilla, 44, was declared dead at 3:15 p.m. by Dr. Jeremy Cordero and Dr. Margie Quitoy from Medical Center Manila.

Police had identified the judge's own clerk of court as the suspect who also died in the incident.

SMaRT personnel have already arrived in the area to probe the incident.

The motive of the crime was not yet established.

Initial investigation showed that Abadilla was having a conversation with the suspect as regards his performance, which seemed "unfavorable."

Authorities said the suspect got sick with COVID-19 which supposedly affected his performance.

According to a witness, the suspect was planning to resign from his post. -NB, GMA News
