Manila Bay 'white sand' beach continues to attract onlookers

Police on Wednesday cordoned off the footbridge overlooking the Manila Bay "white sands" beach to avoid violations of social distancing protocols like what happened over the weekend when it was temporarily opened.

But after pedestrians complained, the police moved the cordon to the top of the footbridge.

But the barrier was not enough to discourage people from taking selfies and photos of the beach on the footbridge steps and even right beside the cordon.

On Monday, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno discouraged the public from visiting the spot in light of the threat of COVID-19. For him, it is enough that the public had a preview of the Manila Bay Sands through the media.

Ermita Police  station commander Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Caramoan has been relieved from his post following the police's failure to enforce social distancing measures in the area during the weekend.  —KBK, GMA News
