Parents are teachers in modular distance learning amid COVID-19
Parents or guardians are now the teachers of their children under a modular distance learning system being implemented by the Department of Education amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
According to Saleema Refran's report on "24 Oras," the Quezon City schools' division has conducted a dry run of the modular distance learning for 25 kindergarten students of Holy Spirit Elementary School.
The parents will go to schools weekly to pick up the copy of learning modules.
"Dito po kasi more on pag-iisipan ng bata talaga kung anong gagawin niya kasi self-learning po. For the primary level po kasi kailangan talaga po ng guidance ng parents," Master Teacher Sarah Jane Calma said.
In the dry run, parents taught children how to read and write for one week.
"Sa ngayon po dahil may pandemya, hindi na natin kailangan palabasin yung mga anak natin, so yung mga bata safe na natututo," Mary Rose Petremetre said.
Meanwhile, modules will be delivered to parents who cannot go to schools. This included Irene Lauzon and her four-year-old son James Ivan.
Lauzon is having difficult explaining the lessons to her child.
"Pinag-aaralan ko po muna yung mga ituturo ko sa kanya tsaka ko po sasabihin sa kanya o ituturo," she said. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
